Meet Your Instructors

Learn from a seasoned groundhandling instructor with years of experience in the field

Andre Bandarra

André had always dreamed of being in the sky, and had begun building & flying model aircraft from a young age. Started paragliding in 2014, after a stroll through the Peak District left him amazed by the ease and elegance of these everyday people floating over the hills - and on foldable, portable aircraft! He signed up for a course the day after, and never looked back. Since moving to Portugal in 2018 he and Gemma have logged 1000's of hours groundhandling in all conditions and wind strengths. They have produced numerous videos on Groundhandling on YouTube as well as the most comprehensive and complete Groundhandling course ever made.

Gemma Bee

What started off as a ‘just a taster session’ quickly progressed into gaining her full pilot’s license with which she experienced the awe & beauty of soaring over the Derbyshire hills. She was working as a nurse in Sheffield for 9 years before she decided to try something completely new in Portugal, and what a learning curve it has been. Seven years and 1000’s of hours of groundhandling later, and she’s still learning new things everyday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

  • What if I've never paraglided before? Is this course suitable for beginners?

No. This course is designed for PG and PPG pilots who have passed their license, have command of basic groundhandling and want to further their knowledge. If you want to start from scratch we recommend finding a school near you and instead taking our Foundation and Beginner modules before this one.

  • Do I need any special equipment to take this course?

You can get a lot from just watching the videos, it will be nothing without muscle memory, so you must practise. The best is to have your own wing, harness and helmet. If you're just starting out or have strong wind, or groundhandle a lot, a groundhandling wing and a lightweight harness will also be very useful.

  • How long does it take to complete the Intermediate module?

Different people learn at different paces. Generally it can take around an hour or less, but it depends on you, how fast you want to go, and how well you do on the final quiz.
